Former world champion Gerardo Valencia can’t keep still for very long. Always on the go, whether it be to the gym, to the next session, or to work, Gerardo keeps pushing forward! We caught up with him to see what’s been going on recently and what he’s looking forward to in 2026. Check it out now!

HAMMER: Hey Gerry, what’s new? How has the new year been treating you so far?
Gerardo: So far, so good! It’s treating me well and it’s only going to get better!
HAMMER: What are your plans for 2026? Any trips you're particularly excited for?
Gerardo: I definitely want to get back down to Muertos Beach in Mexico to go hunting for barrels. Our trip last year was so good!
HAMMER: Are you planning anything fun with your brother, Yahir, this year?
Gerardo: I have some new plans and trips for this year with him…I don’t want to disclose anything but you guys will see! And it’s going to be sick!

HAMMER: What would you say is your main goal for the 2026 season?
Gerardo: Obviously I’m excited to compete and potentially win contests/events but I’m really looking forward to just enjoying my skimming and surfing with friends and go discover new spots and waves.
HAMMER: Which event are you the most stoked for this season? And why?
Gerardo: Melaque and Cabo! They’re always the most fun with the best waves.

HAMMER: How do you feel about the current state of skimboarding? Are you hyped on it or do some things need to change?
Gerardo: I’m just excited about the future of skimboarding. We all need to keep pushing and supporting each other!
HAMMER: Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? We’re stoked to see how the year goes for you
Gerardo: I just want to say thank you to everyone who supports us and helps us achieve our goals and dreams.
